Rangers dominated the early stages and came close on sixteen minutes, a good passing move ended with Alex Lowry teeing up Charlie McCann who side stepped a defender on the edge of the box but was denied by a fine MacAllan Whyte save diving to his right. Rangers took the lead five minutes later Alex Lowry cutting in from the left and leaving two defenders in his wake before shooting across the keeper and into the far corner.

Arron Lyall was next to try his luck from around twenty-five yards which MacAllan Whyte gathered at the second attempt. A couple of minutes later Rangers were reduced to ten men, an uncharacteristic challenge from Ross McCausland on Innes Lawson saw the referee show the Rangers forward a straight red card.

As the clock ticked to forty-five minutes Robbie Fraser passed to Charlie McCann and his superb chipped pass was just beyond Alex Lowry inside the right side of the penalty area. In first half injury time Alex Lowry latched on to a loose ball and went past the last defender into the penalty area and slotted the ball past the keeper.

After the turn round the wind had really gained in strength and that became apparent five minutes in when Euan Valentine’s wind assisted corner from the right found the net. On the hour a superb run from the halfway line by Arron Lyall took him past several defenders before he played in Robbie Ure on the right side of the box, as he went past MacAllan Whyte but was forced wide and couldn’t find the net from a narrow angle.

Within a minute Alex Lowry came close when his shot from the edge of the box was only just too high. With a quarter hour remaining the ball broke to Ross Young on the edge of the box and he shot narrowly wide of Lewis Buinauckas’s left hand post. A couple of minutes later Aliue Badra Faye chased MacAllan’s Whyte’s clearance into the right side of the box but Lewis Budinauckas saved easily.

When Rangers failed to deal with a ball played into the box it broke for Euan Valentine deep inside the left side of the penalty area but he shot across goal and wide of the far post. Only a brilliant Lewis Budinauckas save with four minutes remaining kept Rangers lead intact, William Stanford’s low cross from the right broke to David Churchill on the edge of the six yard box and he looked sure to score until the Rangers keeper produced a stunning point blank save.

Rangers made the game safe in the final minute, a fine move released James Graham inside the left side of the box, he seemed to attempt a pass rather than a shot, Arron Lyall collected the ball on the other side of the box where he passed to Alex Lowry who shot into the far top corner to complete his hat-trick. There was still time for one more chance at the other end, Lewis Budinauckas saving bravely at the feet of Aliue Badra Faye with Euan Valentine firing the loose ball wide of the keeper’s left hand post.
