Trivia

On the 14th of February 2012, owner Craig Whyte placed the oldco into administration due to the non-payment of taxes and associated increasing debts. Later that year the oldco was forced into liquidation due to HMRC refusing to accept a Compulsory Voluntary Arrangement.

A consortium led by Charles Green bought the assets of the oldco and transferred ownership to a newco (RFC 2012 plc) in June 2012.

Due to the issues above, later votes between the then SPL and SFL clubs led Rangers being placed into the Third Division for season 2012-13 with just two days to spare. Although the transfer of the club's SFA membership was agreed, various stipulations were put in place - including transfer embargo and fines.

Various legal cases remain in place as of late 2015 - surrounding the ownership of the club from this period.
