The visitors had started the game well but the first real effort on goal came for Rangers on nine minutes, Alex Lowry’s twenty-five yard free-kick forcing Jamie Smith to push the ball over. Just beyond the quarter hour mark Jack Harkness got to the right hand byline and from his cross Robbie Ure looked sure to score but he knocked the ball over from inside the six yard box.

Rangers had a great chance to take the lead on twenty minutes when Fergus Owens flattened Robbie Ure inside the left side of the penalty area with a barge in the back for a clear penalty. Alex Lowry stepped up to send Jamie Smith the wrong way but the ball rebounded from the keeper’s left hand post. Two minutes later Robbie Fraser’s clearance caught out the Accies defence and Zak Lovelace broke clear, he entered the left side of the box and his shot took a deflection forcing Jamie Smith to produce a fine save.

Rangers continued to create chances and Jamie Smith was called into action again, saving Bailey Rice’s twenty-five yard free-kick low at his right hand post. From Alex Lowry’s left hand corner Lewis MacKinnon rose to head narrowly past the back post.

On the half hour mark Hamilton attacked on the right and when the ball was played into the penalty area it took a superb block from Connor Allan to thwart the danger. Two minutes later the visitors took the lead, Dario Zanatta capitalised on a slack Robbie Ure pass to latch on to the loose ball and shoot past Lewis Budinauckas from the edge of the box. Ten minutes before the break Regan Mimnaugh tried his luck from distance with Lewis Budinauckas saving comfortably low to his left.

The second half was only three minutes old when Alex Lowry lost a tussle for the ball with Regan Mimnaugh on the right hand angle of the box and brought down the Accies player as he entered the penalty area, with the Accies midfielder converting the penalty. With the game inside the last twenty minutes Alex Lowry lost possession to Regan Mimnaugh just outside his own penalty area, the ball was moved on to Dario Zanatta who shot past Lewis Budinauckas.

Rangers never looked like turning the game around and their only real effort came with eleven minutes remaining, a corner from the right found its way to Ross McCausland on the left hand angle of the box and his shot beat Jamie Smith but rebounded from the bar.
