A stronger than normal Rangers B side lost to Icelandic Europa Conference League side Breidablik at The Rangers Training Centre yesterday afternoon. With the Icelandic League finished Breidablik need to keep playing and today’s game was preparation for their tie against Genk in Belgium on Thursday.

Only a brilliant save prevented Rangers taking the lead in the fifth minute, the play was switched from the left to Ross McCausland inside the right side of the box, he cut inside a defender and his net bound shot was tipped on to the crossbar by Anton Ari Einarsson. Arron Lyall’s follow up from the rebound was deflected wide of the keeper’s left hand post.

Three minutes later the visitors took the lead, David Ingvarsson drove the ball across the penalty area from the left and Jason Dadi Svanporsson converted at the back post. With the twenty-five minute mark approaching Gisli Eyjolfsson crossed from the left with Jason Dadi Svanporsson heading just over.

Rangers were level a couple of minutes beyond the half hour, Bailey Rice picked out Ross McCausland inside the right side of the box, his superb first touch set him up to beat the keeper with a cool dinked finish. Parity barely lasted five minutes, Viktor Karl Einarsson got to the right hand byline and cut the ball back for Klaermint Olsen to shoot past Robbie McCrorie.

On the stroke of half-time Adam Devine was caught out by a long ball allowing David Ingvarsson to break on the left, his centre picked out Jason Dadi Svanporsson who’s shot came back off Robbie McCrorie’s right hand post, but Gisli Eyjolfsson was on hand to net the rebound.

In the opening minute of the second half substitute keeper Brynjar Atli Bragason denied Archie Stevens with a brilliant point blank save. Goalmouth action for the remainder of the half was at a premium and was only really noted for a plethora of substitutions by both sides.

With two minutes remaining Rangers scored their second goal, Connor Allan volleying Arron Lyall’s corner from the right through a crowded penalty area and into the net.
